    Wip Capitol World of Thal

    Hey guys!

so I was flipping through a very old sketch book of mine I had honestly thought lost. In it I found some old concept arts of mine dealing with a space-aged world I was building for fun in my middle school years. I will go ahead and copy the written text from the pictures into this post so that you can more easily read it.

A-class capitol ship (the Arbiter Class)
Flagship of the Second Imperial Fleet

    Stats:
    Crew Comp: 70,000 cap.
    Ship Comp: 10,000 cap.

    Hydrogen compressed thrusters (STL)
    Plasma Burst Impulse (STL)
    Dark Matter Stream Drive (DMS-FTL)

Magniton Accelerated Rail Cannon (MARC) x2
-Magnesium cased Plasma rounds (PLRs: 8.3 m[unreadable]a 50 mgT)
    Long Range Anti-missile laser array
Short Range anti-craft suppression turrets (800mm cal, dual barrel)

    Purpose/Function
    -Search/destroy enemy support vessels
-provide defense against long-range high yield projectiles
    -transport troops

    D-Class (the Dread)
Flagship of the Thalssian Empire and Mobile seat of the Emperor.

    Crew Comp: 327,000 cap.
    Ship comp: 189,000 cap.

    Hydrogen compressed thrusters (STL)
    Plasma Burst Impulse (STL)
    Dark Matter Stream Drive (DMS-FTL)

    MARC x2; Titanium plasma slugs
    Computer guided missile bays (287 x 3
    Anti-Missile laser arrays (1897x)
    Long range suppression turrets (4320x)
Short range close qrt. turrets (6127x / side)

these are some of the spaceships for the Thalssian Empire. I had also created a crude galactic map to go with these ships.

when I found these I was looking at some space-aged maps and games, so I decided to start a map of Thal, the capitol world of the Thalssian Empire. So here is the WIP for this thread (finally)

the text is flavor text that one would see in a probe's diagnostic readout. it details things like the major and minor geographical data and planetary stats like gravity, density, mass, rotational period, satellites, etc. I am really looking forward to working on this particular map since it will be rekindling this old project I had more or less forgotten And eventually I will make similar maps for the capital worlds of the Republic of Malore, the Jo'kor Confederacy and the Union of Three.

I don't know if you intend to represent your map as spherical projection.
But if you do, I'd recommend to do the work in equirectangular projection first (2 wide, 1 high). This is the easiest way to do a map if you want to get the right coordinates quickly and accurately.
Only when it's done you project the result on a sphere. The coordinates are still correct and the shapes look naturally what is rarely the case when one tries to map on a sphere directly - we simply can't draw correctly and naturally on a sphere.
Even if you have a first sketch on a sphere because you want the relative areas to be in certain proportions, it is better to reproject the sketch on an equirectangular map, do the whole detail work there and then finish by projecting the finished map on a sphere again.
